GLOBAL RECYCLED STANDARD (GRS)

The Global Recycled Standard (GRS) is used to verify and trace the exact proportion of recycled material in a product throughout the entire supply chain. It can be applied to all recycled materials. To use the GRS label on a product, at least 50 percent of the certified material content must consist of recycled material. In addition, clear requirements in the areas of environmental management, social responsibility, and chemical composition must be met, compliance with which is regularly monitored by independent auditing bodies.

RECYCLED CLAIM STANDARD (RCS)

The Recycled Claim Standard (RCS) is used to verify and trace the exact proportion of recycled material in a product throughout the entire production chain. Depending on the percentage of recycled material relative to the certified material or fiber content, either the RCS Blended logo (at least 5% recycled material) or the RCS 100 logo (at least 95% recycled material) is used. Compliance with the criteria is regularly monitored by independent auditing bodies. Unlike the GRS, however, the RCS does not include requirements regarding the chemical additives used and does not encompass guidelines on environmental management or social responsibility within the company.
